So..Hey Guys! It has been a while I am so sorry. I am in China now, Chengdu to be more precise! It is super amazing here and I love it thus far! As you guys know I am here for an internship for two months and so far it has been two weeks!
I am really enjoying my internship I have so much to learn and it is going to take some time but I do enjoy my work a lot. The Chinese work ethic is like no other, they WORK! The company I am with is super dope full of creative young people and I am learning so much! I am currently assisting with Social Media and online presence as well as trying to learn from the Web Developer. Web Development has always been an area of IT that I love but did not get the chance to do much during my university studies. I need to update my blog with the skills I have learnt thus far and I will share some of these tips with you guys soon!
I think the big question that you all have is WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING BLACK IN CHINA! haha well it is what I expected, I stand out. In public I get constantly stared at and I am fully aware I am different, but itvs fine. It does not really bother me, I feel like sometimes Chinese people want to talk to me or are just super curious but don’t know what to do with themselves other than stare.
Generally, the most awkward time for me is on the train (which is so much nicer than TLF) the constant stares from everyone getting on the train like ‘OMG foreigner’ LOL. As a whole Chinese people are friendly and I just feel like they are very interested/curious about me rather than scared but don’t know how to approach me. Especially since I am not just a standard white foreigner, I have dark skin and I can comfortably use chopsticks which I think it freaks them out a little haha
However, being foreign in China has it’s perks, shout out HELENS BAR!! haha I love that place can not wait to go back.
The food here is so CHEAP!! Chengdu is the home of spicy food, everything has a kick and I love it. I love lunchtime, everyday for less than £2.00 I go to a buffet with my work colleges and it has so many options to choose from!
7/11 is my second home. The meals at 7/11 are super tasty, I pop in their for snacks and dinner sometimes. I do not really cook here because good (healthy kinda) food is so cheap to buy.
Once I get more confident ordering food in mandarin I will definitely be trying more stuff. At the moment all I can say is ‘我要这个’ which means I want this.
So this is my experience two weeks in to my two month stay. I have a lot to learn at my internship and a lot to explore. I already feel like I can’t wait to return to China because I don,t think I will be able to explore China as much as I want too LOL, hehe you’ll see why in future posts! so broke
Chengdu is so beautiful, I can only describe it as a city with palm trees, super chill but still a major city! Also, let me just say the shopping centres here put our London Westfields to shame, literally.
‘We must accept that are dreams are supposed to scare us because they’re bigger than what we imagined. It’;s something greater than what we already have, which takes hard work – a lot of it’
Till next week
再见朋友 (bye bye friend!)
xo
FYI: I have not seen a real life panda yet! LOL #goals.
