First of all I had been avoiding KFC since I first arrived in Chengdu, when I spotted it in the taxi to my apartment, because I did not want to be:
- The stereotypical foreigner eating western junk food in China.
- The stereotypical BLACK person eating chicken in KFC.
NOT that I should be ashamed of loving chicken, I mean chicken is dope lets not lie BUT I really did not want to perpetuate the stereotype of ‘black people loving chicken’ …in China of all places LOL
BUT everyday I would be on the crowded metro and see this poster for a KFC deal and I was like for 29¥ aka £2.90 I can get all of that? it MUST BE LIES
So, I mentioned this KFC deal one day to a couple of other intern friends out here ‘Have you ever wanted to try that KFC deal that is always on the metro’ and they all looked at me like YES! So we made our way to Chunxi Road KFC and placed an order to share…
First of all see the cool box in comes in? we did’nt get one, they were out of stock and it just went down from there. KFC sucked. I wish I had taken pictures but my dreams were so killed I was too sad to. The chicken was dry and had no flavour pretty much and then best of all some girls came in and sat down and proceeded to take ‘secret’ (aka just held the camera up to our faces) photos of us in KFC….FML.
My Chinese sucks so I asked my friend if she could ask them why they were taking pictures of us and she did and here was the answer…
‘You are all so beautiful’
WHAT LIES! I wish they would have just said we want to send it to our friends on WeChat and laugh because we see foreigners in KFC! URGH. I was so annoyed I do not want a photo of me looking crusty in KFC in China floating around on WeChat! BUT that is the reality of being foreign in China constant ‘secret photos’ EVERYDAY!
Moral of the story, KFC sucks in China. Mcdonalds has chicken wings that taste amazing and I would recommend those instead haha!
My time is China is coming to an end it’s sad I am finally comfortable and have adapted to life here. However, I am pretty broke despite food being so cheap haha
