Last year I took part in the Royal Academy of Engineering This Is Engineering campaign to encourage more young people, from all backgrounds, to consider a career in Engineering. It was truly DOPE to be able to represent and drive the message that ASOS is a Fashion company driven by TECH. As many people seem to not be aware of this and all the careers opportunities available.
I also took part in this campaign for 14 year old me, who discovered and fell in love with HTML and CSS using Piczo and Myspace.
Representation matters. Kei Maye (a black girl with amazing front-end skills killin’ it on Piczo) heavily inspired me. 2006 I won ‘Most Organised’ site in her Piczo awards and from that point onwards I wasn’t sure how but I knew I wanted to be creative and write code.
MAJOR THROWBACK
Everyone’s journey into Engineering is different, full of continuous learning and growth. Despite taking the ‘traditional‘ route into Engineering, it wasn’t easy and I still have days when I feel like a noob but I love it.
Checkout the campaign videos, show love and share. It was truly honoured to be apart of it and represent. #BLACKGIRLENGINEERS
ENGINEERING IS EVERYWHERE.
Till next time xo
