What’s with the run clubs craze 1st quarter 2024?
Noticed a surge (aka my TikTok is pushing me videos) in people joining run clubs since January, even braving the cold weather. I can’t help but wonder, is it a compulsory thing? To be fair, I was once an active member of a run club, #bangon6. Hyde Park 5K every Wednesday at 6 AM for a solid two months during summer 2021. It was fantastic, not that I was good but completing that run then I would walk to work, so would be doing 10K+ steps by 7:30 AM feelin’ like a BADDIE. Those were the days, my runs turned into sporadic jogs, and long podcast walks.
Late last year, thanks to TikTok, I stumbled upon @savannahsachdev , who is currently on an impressive daily running streak, inching closer to 1000 days ๐๐พ. She’s created an authentic and engaging platform for herself. In a recent interview, she described her streak as a ‘movement streak’ for self, and it resonated with me. Now, I see it as five minutes of jogging, 10 minutes of speed running, 30 minutes of slow jogging, or a two-hour walkโhowever you choose to move.
I have no aspirations to run a marathon or anything really…I’ve just got two goals for the year:
- Achieve a 5K in 29 minutes!
- Run/jog 15K to a lush brunch spot this summer…maybe ending in a bottomless who knows ๐ฅ
Recently, upgraded my worn-out Nike Reacts to the Nike Running React Infinity Run 4 trainers. Here’s to hoping Nike blesses me with a mega discount code for those elusive Nike Alphafly 2 haha (how is everyone affording these please) I’m also on the lookout for a stylish yet affordable running vest. Any recommendations?
Are you caught up in the running phase, or is it not your thing? What are your thoughts on run clubs?
