Published by

The rona has got me reading/looking over my favourite books again. So I thought I would share some of them with y’all.

PHYSICAL BOOKS
COLORLESS TSUKURU TAZAKI AND HIS YEARS OF PILGRIMAGE

Haruki Murakami is one of my favourite authors ever. His words are so beautiful and deep. I’m still in my feelings with the way this book ended but as with many of Murakami’s books he leaves you wanting to know more and why. I got this beautiful hardback cover on eBay for like £5, you can find amazing hardback books on eBay for cheap guys!

NOT A NORMAL FOOD GUIDE
I’m a ‘self proclaimed’ foodie #thefoodplugpanda so I’m always on the lookout for a DOPE food spot to hit up next and try. I’ve been flicking through the pages of this book and adding to my Google Maps ‘Want To Visit’ list.

PHARRELL: PLACES AND SPACES I’VE BEEN
by Pharrell Williams
Contribution by Anna Wintour and Nigo and Kanye West and Jay-Z
This was beautiful gift from my friends (S/O Viv and Angie) for like my 22nd birthday. This is the perfect coffee table book, I often flick through the pages for inspiration and yeah…I just admire Pharrell!

SLAY IN YOUR LANE: THE BLACK GIRL BIBLE
Currently in the middle of reading this and loving it #blackgirlmagic
AUDIOBOOKS:

So…I’m not the most consistent book reader BUT I am an audio-book junkie, below are some of my recent favs:

The Game of Desire
5 Surprising Secrets to Dating with Dominance–and Getting What You Want
Shannon Boodram

I have been following Shan Boodram for many years on YouTube she is a ‘certified sex educator, dating coach and relationship expert’. This book follows the dating lives of 5 single ladies in LA, from Love Languages to experimenting to Vagina juice perfume hehe so much is covered in this book. It’s not a happy ending book where each lady finds the ‘perfect partner’ it’s more about growth, enlightenment and getting to know yourself and what you want; single or in a relationship. This not the type of book you read (or listen to) once, each chapter forces you to look at yourself, the way you date and approaches you may want to add to your dating own life.
TIP: get the FREE WORKBOOK that comes alongside this book, Love Languages, Attachment Styles, Questions to ask your EX…GET IT!

Black Privilege
Charlamagne Tha God

Charlamange Tha God (aka my sometimes problematic fav) is an AMAZING radio personality and I truly believe he’s destined for TV/Radio greatness. Every-week on the Brilliant Idiots podcast he makes me laugh and the Breakfast Club Radio show interviews are 10/10 mate! I had no expectations when I bought this audiobook but I truly enjoyed hearing his story. The growth from where he came from to where he is now is so dope and he dropped some serious ‘God Jewels’ throughout that really stood out to me.

God Jewel:
“When someone offers to help you, tell them exactly what you want. Don’t beat around the bush. If you’re not crystal clear about what your ask is, chances are you won’t get anything.”

F*ck Your Diet: And Other Things My Thighs Tell Me

I first came across Chloé Hilliard when I used to listen to her on the Rantin’ and Ravin’ podcast with Yamanika Saunders, whom are both seriously DOPE and hilarious New York based comedians. This book is for the anyone that has struggled with dieting, weight gain, weight loss, body image and learning to love the skin you’ve been blessed with. I truly loved this audiobook it was open, honest and SUPER relatable. It also made me fear gym mats LOL plz everyone lets use Dettol wipes in the gym no matter what!

CURRENTLY LISTENING:
Heart and Hustle by Patricia Bright
Patrica Bright is an inspiration to many Black British Women. She’s Youtube legend, you can’t deny what she has accomplished and the MAJOR LEVEL she’s at. Since my late teens I have avidly followed BritPopPrincess (LOL I still love that name) and have watched her grow and GLOW. I look forward to learning more about her in this audiobook, the wins, struggles and the gems.
SIDENOTE: I am truly thankful that Patricia is now comfortable enough to share more about ‘SECURING THE BAG’ with her audience, it means a lot especially to the generation of girls like me.

“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
– Haruki Murakami
